For all the men out there - before proposing to your wife/finacee did you seek her fathers permission for her hand in marriage? I know that was the old fashion thing to do but i didnt really think it went on any more, but my boyfriend and i were talking about marriage and he said before we would get engaged he would formally ask my father. I know my father will absolutly love that to happen and have no objections what so ever. Any of you men ever had your daughters boyfriend ask you? If so how did it make you feel?
Thanks for taking the time to read

i think he should go for it it's a lovely thought that he respects your family.
My fella asked asked my dad's permission; my dad was made up and my granddad who was also present, cried. Even my father had never seen his own father cry before! It really meant a lot to my dad that my partner would ask him.
Then the next night we went out for a meal and my fiancee got down on one knee in the middle of a packed Italian restaraunt and asked me if I would be his wife. Ahhhh....... ;-)
I didn't ask my fiances dad for permission, I had always intended to, but I just wanted the announcement to be a surprise for everybody - and he is useless at keeping secrets! And I am (or like to think that I am) a well brought up young gentleman.
I proposed at Eilean Doonan castle in Scotland and everyone was delighted.
Looking back, he would have liked me to ask I guess, but it's done now. Something I will save for my wedding speech!
