I made this for the first time last night - abs delish - thought I'd share it with you. If anyone could give me tips to improve it that would be great.

2 x tins Tuna (in brine)
2 x sml onion
Milk / flour / butter
Garden peas & sweetcorn
Boiled, mashed potatoes.

Boil tuna in milk for approx 3 mins, then drain & store the milk. Finely chop onion and cook with a litter butter until soft. Add another knob of butter to the onions & approx 2 tblsp plain flour & whisk until a fine paste. Add the "tuna" milk & keep stirring, add more milk if necessary until a medium consistency is formed - (add s & p to the sauce if required) - once ready, pat the tuna into an ovenproof dish, sprinkle peas & sweetcorn, pour over the sauce & top with mash pots. I just had my mash plain, but think it would be lovely with a cheesey or crisp topping do you think?

You could do it with tuna and another fish like salmon, cheesy topping is great and also pepper in the mash is nice. We do ours with prawns and haddock or plaice. Nover tried it with veg, might have to give that a go... =-)
meg you have the basis of a great pie, i woul saute off some peppers with the onions, you could add sweetcorn if wanted, how about a gratin topping cheese and breadcrumbs lovely!!!
Ooops, I meant "Never" :-( (I'm always doing that!)

Forgot to mention - i added a dash of rice wine vinegar to the sauce - not sure if it made a massive difference or not, but tasted delicious all the same.
Balsamic Vinegar is always nice with Tuna
Meg888 I am going to try this dish as it seems easy to do.

I am going to add grain mustard to my mash. What do you think? Yes/No?

Charisma09 - yes I think I would - it would just be a hint for my lot though (they're like children, if they know whats really in it they wouldn't eat it!) - another good idea. I also liked what puddicat suggested with a breadcrumb topping, i think that (without the cheese) would go lovely with the mustard. Let me know what it was like & enjoy it.
I certainly will Meg888. I will see how the little ones like it, though I wager my cats may end up with theirs!
Feedback... They LOVED it! There was not a scrap left for the cats and the mustard in the mash was "to die for"!
I adore fish pie....and you can add anything you want to it if you like it.

I always have a white fish, a smoked fish, some prawns, some whole mussels, maybe some cockles....lots of different flavours and textures (fish are poached in milk and the milk used for the sauce).

Then i add some chopped onions, sweetcorn and peas, chopped peppers and sliced mushrooms. Bit of shopped parsley goes in with Hollandaise or just a basic cheese sauce with mash on top. Grated cheese and dried thyme top the pie off !!!

delicious but seems to take ages to prepare (but worth it) and costs a fortune !!!!
