am i a freak or very talented?

Whenever I smell green tea, I think of ashtrays

peach or blackcurrant reminds me of cat wee

and if i eat a banana whilst drinking coffee, i can taste liquorice!

Have i got an amazing sense of smell, or a rubbish one?
Is it the same for everyone?

Morning crisgal, sometime ago a chap was on the telly who had a similar sense of smell to you,certain foods smelt very differently from usual smell,cant remember if he had had a accident and this is when his sense of smell went haywire,it is very very rare you are special lol,

People do smell things different to others, i have a poor sense of smell really so you probably have a good one.

crisgal, whilst i don't share your interesting sense of smell and taste, i do see letters and words in colour, particularly the days of the week and months of the year. some stay the same colour all the time (wednesday is always green, saturday yellow and sunday red) and others change, friday for instance is navy blue today. what i have is called synaesthesia, maybe there's a name for your wonderful intermingling of smells?

wow ethandron, i too have synaesthesia and never knew it!!!
not the colour one like yours, but the way words have places, as it were, like they are stacked in a certain order. hard to describe really.

Nothing to do with my funny smells but very enlightening all the same!

you're welcome! i only found out about it a couple of years ago, until then i thought everyone saw words just like i do. when some of our family and friends were all together for some reason, i just asked, generally, what colour was wednesday. everyone lookd at me like i was crazy - apart from my sister who immediately said 'green'. as you say, interesting.
