THANK YOU stokemaveric, You are brilliant and thank you for taking up for us. Very few people do but I can tell you that the ones who have a loved one on the autistic spectrum, their lives can sometimes be pure hell.
My lil' boy who is on the autistic spectrum is now talking so his behaviour is less challenging now (but he has his moments) but that is only becos I paid for private speech therapy. If I had waited for one to one therapy on the NHS he would have probably got it when he is 21 (he is now 5 years old). But not everyone is lucky and most of my friends find it very very difficult to afford the basic things leave alone private speech therapy.
The autism bill, if it comes through will give us a leg to stand on when we are fighting for respite care and holiday play schemes and also for stuff when our children turn adults becos now there is nothing in black and white to help us.
The reason why I am on the warpath to get this bill go thru is becos I met a lady whose lil' boy is on the autistic spectrum and who is very challenging and she was racking her brains as to what to do during the half term this week. She told me that she prayed for dementia or Alzheimer's Disease so that she could forget about her lil' boy's autism and atleast get one proper night's sleep. She has not got one proper night's sleep in 4 months and no help (the dad has run 200 miles in the opposite direction as he could not cope with the lil' boy's disability). That is the reason I am fighting and to be honest with you when I put the petition up again and got just one response I lost hope. But thank you for being so understanding. God's choicest blessings on you!

stokemaveric,
you are to be congratulated and admired.
I only wish more people would start to think as you do i.e. of OTHERS as well as themselves.
I, for many years, taught "handicapped" children and every day thought and prayed for their parents( in many cases only mother, because the father had left not being able to cope with the realities of having a child with such difficulties).
I now have a severely autistic grandson.
The problems, worries, sresses, exhaustion, feelings of inadequacy, despair etc. which caused me to have a nervous breakdown as a teacher are as nothing compared to what the parents of such children cope with in non-school hours and in holiday periods.
PLEASE, PLEASE !! ..listen to stokemaveric, go to gromitdoo's link, SIGN ON and persuade your friends (e- or otherwise) to do likewise.
Thank you
