Can anyone explain why e-mails sent almost at the speed of light take hours for them to arrive? Even if I send it to myself it still takes just as long

Even telling the truth puts your name on the list. I wonder how people like AOG get away with some of the comments. No one is safe! Better to keep your thoughts to yourselves, you may upset someone. Not that I support the BNP but the fact that they have won an election in the South with 41% of the votes shows in a democracy the problem of immigration will not go away by ignoring it.

Jut to add: they don't get delivered at anywhere near the speed of light. This is a fallacy.
To get around, like any other traffic on the internet, they get routed through various servers. These servers are probably routing other traffic too, so may take a second to get to your email in its queue.
However, 'hours' isn't quite right. This suggests something is a little wrong.
I can send an email to myself, or from someone else, and get it within 10 seconds or so. Not too bad.
