neutrons and protons are the nucleus and electrons rotate around it. number of protons = the electrons.

Yes it does.

Rutherford gave the first solid evidence by bomparding gold foil with alpha particles. Most went through showing the atom was mostly empty space but a few bounced straight back showing the presence of something very small and very dense (the nucleus)
