Could you perhaps visit Glasgow or Edinburgh or another UK city? I was going to suggest Prague - although not as cheap as it used to be still quite reasonable and a short flight from the UK - depends on what airport you are near though! Also I did get a good deal to Milan at the end of last year - whilst some places were expensive we were pleasantly surprised to find some nice cheap restaurants etc too! You could get a couple of nights in Benidorm or something if you are looking for some fun - again would depend on airports near you!

Nowhere is going to be cheap but you can still get some bargains. Paris is normally thought of as very expensive but a bit of planning can cut your costs dramatically. To get around use Paris Visite tickets

If you head to the Latin Quarter (by taking the RER or Metro to St Michel Notre Dame) you can get a good three course lunch for 10 to 15.

Brussels is generally regarded as one of Europe's more boring capital cities but it's worth a look and, more importantly, it's a great starting point for exploring places along the (inexpensive) rail route to the coast, such as Ghent, Bruges
