Old folk and nursing homes
13 Answers
Overheard conversation in the pub last nite whilst trying to squeeze past a few guys to get to the toilet.
Basically what they were saying was should all old folk living in houses far too big for them be rehoused in government run nursing homes?
Big places like prisons.
Everyday people say how well off prisoners are so why not put all the wrinklies in these homes.
The state can buy their houses for a nominal fee , bag of werthers or wine gums or the like .
And then they can house the homeless.
With the influx of immigrants and also the escalating birthrate , especially to single mums who need houses , wouldn't it be a better use of the housing stock?
It'd be much quicker than building houses and far cheaper.
And the old duffers were gonna peg it soon anyway.
What do you think of that?
Obviously not my opinion but i thought id ask some cbers what they thought.

A lot of councils are buying private housing stock for use as council property, whoever is entitled will be based on a strict criteria and the most needy will get the accommodation first.
If the older person cannot manage a large property that they own they should consider selling and buying something more manageable, if they are in council accommodation then they will probably be already on the list for a suitable dwelling.

i worked in a care home for sevearl years and it was awful to hear the stories from the residents saying wht a nice house they had ex amount of bedrooms, big garden and so on and then they end up where they were, sad thing is all the rooms were the same size except 2 which were very slightly larger and couldnt get more than a tv and a bed in and they all paid different fees

As a "wrinklie" of 86,I think it is a stupid suggestion!
My wife Elsie & I live (alone) in a 4 bed house. However,we have 6 children,8 Grandchildren, and 4 Gt Grandcihildren,so our other bedrooms are rarely empty.
As someone has pointed out,we both worked VERY hard to pay for our home.We now liuve on very little, and apart from the help that our family gives probably could not afford to live here.
I was in the Army during WW2,and fought to help keep the UK free.
Just where do these people get theses crass/impossible ideas from?
Just remember legend, when you need (medically or agewise) to retire back to the UK from your sunny island, imagine where these people would put you!

Mr v i sincerely hope i nevr get that old
but there are many retired here who get far better medical attention than the uk
i know a man of 6 and his wife 66
still very fit
patsa has met them.
they get all prescriptions free as they come from the uk .
they can get a doctors appointment the same day !!!
yes they just go up ask for an appointment and are told a time in the afternoon.
they have no complaints about the service or the medicial staff
there are a great deal of houses with one old person in them
there are many folk without houses
it may not be the right solution
but it is a solution if done
