To add a thank you (if you log on a few days later) do you still add your thanks to the original post? If so can you be sure the contributor gets to see it?
Also are newcomers names always Green and when do they go to black?

the majority of people say their thanks on the original post. If you create another post, it just means you're pushing someone else's question further down the page. You can also give people little red stars to the reply they have given you

The contributor usually gets to see it because if you go top left and go to 'my profile' you get options to see questions you contributed to, and most contributors do check back to see if their post was acknowledged. Generally people prefer a later acknowledgement than a 'thanks in advance' , though I'm sure they'd settle for that if the cash came too!
