Jack was interviewed on the radio one day last week. He was being asked about sporting superstitions. Not only did he wear a hat, but he wore the same hat throughout his career.

He would starch the brim of his old hat at the end of each day�s play to keep it in position. He was once drying it out after this process in an oven in Barbados and he left it in too long and it caught fire. It was rescued just in time.

He had a run in with the authorities when playing a one day match in South Africa when he was asked to wear the sponsor�s hat. He refused but a compromise was reached when he was allowed to wear his old hat underneath the official one.
