Word 2007 Keyword
9 Answers
A mate of mine (who lives a long way away from me) has just purchased her very first laptop ...from Argos...... a Toshiba L300 D Series. The OS is Vista and apparently it has already had Word 2007 installed but when she tries to open Word, it asks for a *keyword*.... My mate tells me that there is nothing in the documentation to indicate what this keyword should be - does anyone have any idea as to what it might be ? Thanks !

If so it's probably expired and it's asking for the product key. If she has only just bought it and it's already expired good chance it was a demo one and it was used in the shop(so the trial period stated) before she got it.

Thanks guys.. it turned out to be just that.. a trial version...the product key was not accepted (I kept getting daft error messages when I typed in the product key - given on a sticker on the underside of the lappie) but I managed to get beyond that point by simply ignoring the product key messages and just clicking on Next . I will check what version of Word she really needs - she's starting a basic computer course - and install that for her instead.
the product key on the sticker on the underside of the laptop is for windows, not office.
if she was to buy office she would get a product key that would activate it, without entering the key it will only work for 30days.
It's a shame she is doing the course because they will expect her to have word, otherwise openoffice would probably cover her needs (well for a word processor anyhow!! ;))

Thank you both for your very helpful responses.
Chuck - ahhhh.... the product key being for windows rather than office makes sense of me being able to *get past it*.... lol... it's all clear now... When we find out which version of Word she will be using on the course and ensure she has that - she's a total novice, has never used a computer before so learning on one version and practising on a (very) different one will probably make her simply give up...
I did discover that her laptop has a word processor that comes with the pre-installed (permanent) Works... she could easily use that if need be - it all depends on what she's going to be taught on the course.

if she has works at home and uses word on the course she can work round this--eg--she creates a doc in word on the course and saves it as a word doc on, say, a pen drive to take home--but she can also save the same doc as a works doc--at home if she works on the "works" version of the doc she can then save the new version as a "works" doc and also as a word doc, choosing whichever version of word she uses at college--that way she will always have 2 versions of each doc--1 in word the other in works--cheers
Thanks Ajmmac - but I think that might be slightly too adventurous right now... she is even taking her laptop to the course because she doesn't believe any other keyboard will be the same as her own. She is a total novice regarding computers - I will sort out getting her the same word processor on her laptop as she is going to be using on the course.... I doubt she could cope with two different ones yet ! She's just about got the hang of turning the pc on and off....
