Cat wee smell in carpet! HELP!

Hi, can anyone recommend a good home remedy / dry shampoo for getting rid of the above....The smell is old, I've shampooed the carpet and also used a specific carpet spray for this purpose, but I can still smell stale cat wee, although it is much fainter than it was. Little so-and-so did it right behind my lounge door and I can smell it when the door wafts over it! Any help appreciated!

You could try a solution of non biological washing powder, give it a good scrub. let it dry then rub over lightly with surgical spirit. I've tried it before and it did work as once they have marked a territory they want to go back to it, the above is supposed to stop it. I tired used it a few years ago when i took in a rescue cat (before she was litter trained) good luck,

had the same problem a few years ago, as with yours behind a door , it had been going on a long time so was quite bad
No matter what i tried it never worked, ended up cutting section of carpet out , eventually replaced the carpet with laminate.

Febreze.

Works wonders. I moved into a place that had a terrible cat smell, so I febrezed the carpet & curtains. Smell was gone!

Hi, if you go into your local pet shop there is a product they sell for getting rid of smells like that. I can't remember what it is called but it is very good. Even gets rid of the smell of sick. Worth a try.

Hi Kaz,

White Vinegar is very good at getting rid of cat pee niffs... it breaks down the bacteria.

Saturate the area with a 50/50 water/white vinegar solution and allow it to air dry (use a fan if you're in a rush).

Cover the area liberally with baking soda � use lots!

Fill a container with enough water to saturate the stained area and add a drop of regular dish detergent. Pour the solution on top of the baking soda.

Using either your hands, towels, or a scub brush, work the baking soda/water/detergent paste into the fabric � work it in good and deep, then allow it to air dry.

Once the area has dried completely and the baking soda has returned to powder form, vacuum it up.

If the vacuum isn't cutting it, it can be blotted up using water and towels.
Repeat steps 3-6 as needed to remove any remaining odor.

It does work!!! :D

Heres one that I used, and it worked. dilute some white vinegar with water and spray it on. When it is dry sprinkle on bicarb and hoover up.

Voila, c'est majique!
