Does a dentist have to have a menue of charges displayed in the reception ?,only our dentist wanted to charge my wife 320 to have a tooth crowned ,seems a bit exesive to me.
i had a crown done on nhs a few weeks ago and it was 198 all in, go to nhs website, im pretty sure they only have 3 price bands now and 198 is top one.I had a crown done privately a couple of years ago and that was about 350 so she could of been quoted private not nhs
A few years ago the NHS decided that they would only fund porcelain crowns on the front (visible) teeth and any crowns on the back teeth would be silver alloy. So if it's a back tooth and your wife wants porcelain then it's actually very cheap as they're usually 500 and up as it would be done privately and dentists can decide themselves how much they want to charge for private treatment.
Front teeth crowns on the NHS are around the price your wife has been quoted. Sometimes a bit less if they don't have to do root canal treatment or rebuild the tooth.
If I was you I'd call them and ask what's involved and what the charges are
as the others have said, an nhs dentist highest charge for any course of treatment is 198 pounds. Your wife has been quoted a private charge. NHS dentists have to display the nhs price bands, but i'm not aware private dentists do
