Well there's no way he's doing 122 in that video, max about 70 I'd say. So perhaps the video is just any old bit they had to give to sky. The speed guns can be iffy, presumably he pleaded gulty though.
You know what I'm saying Filth

You have different standards depending on whether or not you personally identify with someone.

( I'm laughing myself senseless that you think I'm just trying to cause trouble! )

His biggest crime was choosing the dog-ugly Busa when he could've had a beautiful Duke.

I can never understand why people choose boring Jap machines when they could have a sexy Italian.

Yer OK, they're reliable, but so is an Honda Accord. Boring, boring boring.

Seriously though, I've been riding bikes since my early 20's, am now late 30's - and a father of two, and I will NEVER allow either of my kids to ride pillion, much less at 122mph.

However, I think a custodial is wrong.
A few points:

There is no dispute over the speed alleged. His barrister accepted that such a speed was achieved (albeit only for no more than half a mile).

He was charged with Dangerous Driving, not speeding (as Amir Kahn was). When deciding which charge to pursue in these cases the CPS take account of all the circumstances, not simply the speed alleged.

Magistrates sentencing guidelines suggest that the matter should be sent to the Crown Court for sentence (i.e. it warrants more than their six month maximum) if there is evidence of:

Prolonged bad driving involving the deliberate disregard of safety for others.

OR

Excessive speed is involved.... on busy roads.

The magistrates obviously decided that Mr. Bennetss driving involved at least one of the above.

Accordingly the sentence was not handed down by magistrates. Mr Bennet was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court, and the judge could have sent him down for up to two years.

Lord Ahmed did not kill anybody by his actions. He was involved in an accident where somebody had already been killed before he arrived on the scene.

Glad you can see the funny side of all this, DrFilth.

Yes I do have a bit of a following among our lefty friends.

Flip-flop, I think you know why the jap bikes are popular.
- Better
- Cheaper
- Reliable.

Dukes are ok but they sound like a bag of spanners and they have "character" which means they break down a lot. If you don't mind standing at the side of the road a lot waiting for a tow truck then by all means get a Duke!

Ok the italian style and desirability are there but I'd go with my bullit proof reliability all day long.
OK I'd missed the fact that he was sentenced at crown court.

However there is still something unsatisfactory about the charge of dangerous driving in this context.

It seems as if the harsh sentence was less related to the manner of the driving and more to do with the the fact that he'd endangered his son.

There are certain similarities to the case of the "modified land rover" driver who's children died and got 2 years for causing death by dangerous driving.

Hence my comment about the need for a reckless endangerment charge

Amazing

There's literally nothing you can't squeeze a racial slant into isn't there?

Not so, I was just making a general hypothetical comparison.

Unlike some who made direct comparisons ie Lord Ahmed. but you didn't seem so keen to make a comment about them.
I compared this story to Lord Ahmed???

Where did I do that?

Not saying you're wrong...it's just that I can't recall making that point.

Incidentally the whole thing about him only being jailed because he's a Brit is silly.
6 months is not long enough, what kind of dad is he to be going that fast with his kid on the back of his bike, so he might lose his job, he would have lost his sons life if he had come of the back of the bike, and yes i know he might have been a very carefull biker but it doesnt take a lot for you to lost control of a bike at that speed,
sp1814 i have given car drivers as an example forget the white v black v purple v ?

according to ahmed's legal, the man was fine although possibly inebriated until his lordship flattened him.

Custodial for this is madness. Just the state enforcing it's hated of bikers again. The general public has been whipped up to believe they are all dangerous maniacs. Most bike accidents are caused by drivers of other vehicles.
Motorcyclists are 28 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured on UK roads than car drivers. Motorcycle riding is more complex than car driving, requiring excellent motor skills, physical co-ordination and balance.

In Essex, motorcyclists make up 25% of all road fatalities. Despite the myths about poor car drivers, in nearly two thirds of the Essex motorcycle deaths the motorcycle rider was found to be at fault.

Perhaps this is why speeding on a motorbike with a 14 year old riding pillion is viewed more seriously.
