Spell Checker O/E

Thanks to Postdog, Carlton and Chuck on my previous question re spell checker..
I have checked my old PC and I do have "Word" so have the s/c, BUT do not know how I got it as have never in my life bought a download. I do however have open office on the lap top, is that any good for a spell checker??? Looking on M/S page the office seams very expensive for what I require. TIA

if you have word (office) installed on the other computer you should have the CD for it somewhere.
