We have various charities who stick a label on your letterbox requesting good clothes. I am early this morning and noticed just 2 fellows in a plain white van picking up clothese from various houses.
Do you think they are legitimate or what. I actually have a good bag at the moment but I much prefer to leave them in a charitable shop. Are the above merchants ready to sell them onto a market. dunno

I always bag up my good condition old clothes and take them to the charity shop,at least I can be sure the money they sell for goes to a good cause then!

Yes there are. This was highlighted not long ago in a newspaper (can't remember which one) but it does happen. It's very easy to have these bags printed with details of a bogus charity these days. Best to try and phone the said charity, if there is a number on the bag, or if there isn't a contact address or phone number then treat with caution.
I always take mine to a shop, where I know it is legitimate.

If you see them I would ask the company and telephone number of who they collect for. I'm sure if they're legit they won't mind. If they do mind, I would phone the local police station to report them and leave them to investigate it. If you don't see them and are still unsure, I would take your bag to the charity shop so it definitly benefits someone.
I have nothing against charity shops but most of them are manager-owned, get reduced council rates and are only obliged to donate 20% of their net profit to the charity for whom they are collecting. The rest goes in the owner's pocket. You could always sell your clothes to friends, etc, and then make a donation to a non-profit-making organisation.
If they provide a genuine bag with name of charity and there registered number i will give, but if they put these leaflets through that arent these no way do put stuff out,if you are concerned contact trading standards office,we had a spate of these rogues trawling the area, even nicking the genuine charity bags!!!
we got loads of these, if you read them closely they often say for every 'x' amount of clothing collected they will donate 25.00 to the named charity...hmmm..so where does the clothing really go ? and who keeps check on them ? From what i read into it they are commercial money making organisations that use your concience to get supplies..or am i being cynical ?
