Do jobs exist?

My son has applied for numerous jobs offered on various jobsites on the internet. He never receives the courtesy of a reply or acknowlegement. I am wondering whether these jobs advertised actually exist !!

A friend of mine has said the same thing - her husband has also experienced this.

I think you can't beat the OLD way of writing a letter or sending an application by post.

Has anyone else experienced this.

Although I currently have a job, I have been applying for new jobs for the past month or so. There is obviously less work around, but there is definitely work in the area that I live. Often I do not hear from the organisation unless I am shortlisted for interview, in fact only 2-3 applications have had the courtesy to send me a holding / acknowledgement email. Even if you get to interview satages, it is not expected that you would hear from them unless you got the job or are asked back for a second interview.

The OLD way of writing a letter or sending an application by post is dated and slooooooow!

I think this is very bad practise.All applications should be answered. I too think snail mail is still a good thing. Good luck to your son anyway.

we recently advertised a junior admin asisstant and received over 800 applications, there is no way we could reply to them all, it took enough time to go through them all!

My son was recently, like yours, was looking for work, he too tried the 'stay at home' method but to no avail. Finally one morning two weeks ago he appeared downstairs for breakfast looking very smart,- shirt, tie etc. He said rather confidentally that if work wasn't going to come to him he was going to go out and find some himself. He spent the day touring the local industrial estates, the type of which are in most towns and cities today, he 'cold called' into several firms armed only with a copy of his CV and a willing to work attitude. As a result he was offered a choice of three jobs one of which he is now happily going of to each morning............ Hope this helps

As mccfluff says, with the number of applications you get for a job advert there is no way you can reply to them all. If it were just one or two then fair enough, but hundreds?

Thanks for all of your input - it would be nice of those employees who advertise those jobs to actually include in their adverts 'only contacted if shortlisted'.

I am currently looking for work and someone (can't remember who or how reliable their info is) told me that job websites like reed etc do advertise some "real" jobs but the majority of them are fake just to get recruitment agencies to lore you on to their books.
My advise is to write directly (either by email or snail mail) to companies including your CV asking if they have any jobs going that you'd be suitable for.
(This hasn't worked for me so far but I'm still hoping...)
Erdinger's son's idea is good though. I might try that myself.
