my camellia plant is covered in what i can only describe as a black powdery substance.

would anyone know what this is and what can i use to get rid of it.

It will be sooty mould which grows on honeydew deposits by aphids. If you look very closely on the underside of the leaves you should see some aphids. You can wipe the mould away with a damp cloth and fairy liquid solution and then treat the camellia for aphids.
