hot plugs...

the plug on my heater has begun to get hot...one day i could actually smell the hot plastic

it has not actually burnt or gone brown or anything...but i am obviously wary of using it...i can't keep my eye on it much either because it is not in the room i sit in...

but is this a problem with the plug, the extension lead it is plugged into or the fire itself??
can i just put on a new plug?

the fire is oldish but has been fine for years...

Agree with Knobby... hot plug = loose wire.

check all connections in the plug and make sure all of the wire is in the terminal as well, not half of it in and half hanging out

get it sorted before you use the heater again though!

i've changed it now, it was just starting to brown a bit inside

and knobby, just for the record, i dont do wind ups - you'd know that if you'd been on here longer and seen my other posts...besides, there is really no need...real life is far weirder and more interesting than anything i could cook up !! lol

May I recommend a plug manufactured by the company MK - I use these for high current appliances such as Dishwashers/Washing machines that have to be wired to a socket.
They differ from anormal plug by the type of terminal inside the plug which is more like a post and the wire wraps around it with a screw/washer combination to tighten down on it. Not prone to arcing.
Slightly more expensive but well worth it.
