me and the elephant

I am trying to find a song which had a chorus which said "me and the elephant we'll never forget you". I remember hearing it on the radio in the early 80's

 but I am not sure if it was Charlie Landsborough who had the hit with it - can't find any trace of it!

Incidentally - around the time this record was around, one of the Radio 1 DJs (probably Noel Edmonds) did a feature on mis-heard lyrics - someone wrote in that they thought the line in this song went "just to kill an owl or 2" "rather than "just to kill an hour or 2". I have checked the chart web-sites and my Guiness Book of Hit Singles and I can't find it anywhere. A mystery.
