What do others recommend dry food or meat for there dogs?
At the moment hes had to go on shredies because it only thing that don't go right through him but obviously he ain't getting all the goodness he needs from it

I fed my pup dry food, he's six months old now and still on dry food for the exact same reason. I feed him James Wellbeloved puppy food as Hills Science plan made him very ill.

I was the opposite way round to Moonstone.Lottie was fed James Wellbeloved to start (after she was weaned off the breeders food which was Wagg) but it didn't agree with her and then onto Hills Large Breed Puppy.(she is a lab) All dried complete foods.They need 3-4 small meals a day.Now 9 months she is in great condition and adores her food.She also loves carrots and apple pieces (frozen, they help with teething)

At 7 weeks he should be still on the same food as the breeder had him on.

Have you had him checked out by the vet? Pups dehydrate VERY quickly and if normal food 'goes right through him' then I think you need to see a vet as soon as possible.

I would be very concerned that a pup that young had the runs, he could have any number of infections (parvo being one).

Shredies is definately not a suitable diet, he needs far more goodness in his food than that.

How long have you had him?

i f you bought this pup from a reputable breeder you should have had a feeding programme - where did you get it from? do you have its history etc - if yoiu bought it from a dubious source, take it immediately to a vet.

Surely a pup of 7 weeks is too young to be away from its mother anyway.

You need to take the pup straight away to get him checked over and advised on his diet.

Pup been checked by vet there nothing wrong with him they just have a sensitive stomach at that age, i was told to put him on pedigree puppy food seen as his system not taking to dry mix and touch wood all is well he toileting proper.
7wks old is not to early to leave there mother, the food he was on from where i got him was cheap stuff and would have done nothing for him thats why i changed it

8-10 weeks is the recommended age for pups to leave their mother.

I have to agree with the others that 7 weeks seems to be a bit early. But chelsea seems to be a caring owner and is seeking the right advice. I reckon the puppy is better off with her than with the breeder.

I do agree sandmaster. The pup has found himself a very good owner. It's the people that let him go at 7 weeks (or perhaps younger) that are at fault.

My puppy also had a delicate stomach when I got her. My vet recommended I feed her on a diet of cooked pasta and cooked chicken for one week, then onto hills science food (puppy - sensitive) this did the trick!

you should be feeding him the food from the breeder, i breed cavaliers and i always rehome my pups at 8 weeks with eukanuba puppy dry mixed with butchers puppy food. If you werent given food the change of food and the settling in period to a new home will cause stomach upsets.You need to see the vet or your pup will be dehydrated, they may need to minster fluids.

i have 2 cavaliers i got my first one when he was 6 weeks old and as he was my first dog i thought they could leave there mother at that age, my female was 9 weeks though.?? i feed both mine on wagg complete but my youngest dog still has soft poo more often than not, but when we first got her they were not solid at all and the vet said she had a diarea infection and she past it to my other dog. that was not fun!! lol

thats like when i got my husky he was on butchers adult dry food but he had the constant runs with it so i changed his food to padigree chum puppy meat mixed with dry and his doing realy well with it i used to think it was quite expencive but i was willing to pay but my sister used tescos premiam dog food on her two gsds and when we went to get some we noticed that the pedigry chum was only 98p more so we both now use it as you get better quality for just that little bit more
