has my future career just been ruined?

hello i am christy and am 12 ! i started horse riding 2 years ago and have been bragging for a horse ever since ( some of you may have seen my post on animals and nature about this ) .and my only dreams are to  get a horse and the only job i want to do be and work with or around horses (especially teaching otheres how to ride) but my friend told me that beacuse i have not been around horses for many years and am not allowed to own one till i get a job ,she said " i dont think this career will be able to come true " ( the girl who said it went to my primary school ) and ever since she said that i have been trying my hardest to  be around horses soooo  much ! so i wondered if anyone knew if what she said is true and if so are there any jobsi couyld do with horses !

it's absolutely not true. If there are any riding stables near you, try asking if they need any volunteers, that way you get experience with the horses and they 'll probably let you have some free rides too. If that is what you want to do as a career, you stick with it and follow your dreams, you can make them happen

No way is what this girl said true. If you put your mind to it, then nothing can stop you reaching your dream of working with horses. I have a feeling that this 'friend' of your's is slightly jealous that you are so dedicated to your hobby, and that you know exactly what you want to do with your life.

If my Mum can leave school at 14 without taking GCSEs (or equivalent), then take A-Levels, a Nursing course, and become a midwife at 48, the world is your oyster, sweetheart!

It depends one what sort of work you want to go into, but I live in a rural area, and I know an awful lot of people who chose to leave school early and work in stables. They decided to work their way up in life by taking job-based skills and qualifications. I also know people who are studying vet-science at university, hoping to specialise in equine medicine.

There is always more than one way into a profession- it depends purely on how hard you want to work. Not on your age or exposure to animals! You'll only get somewhere in your career by showing enthusiasm and passion for your work. Just from your question, it's obvious that you do.

When I was your age i worked for free at my local stables mucking out and exercising the horses,in return I was given riding lessons.Try contacting your local stables,most will be very happy for someone to volunteer their time for them and in return you will learn about the care and management of the horses.After school I went to an agricultural college where they run equine study courses where you will study biology,care,husbandry and everything that there is to learn about horses plus they had alot of horses to learn with and ride. You can also do a course on becoming a riding instructor. Good luck!

Christy, of course its not true.  My daughter is 13 and she is desperate to work with horses too although she does not know in what capacity ie vet, riding instructor, groom etc.  Every single bit of experience you can get with horses helps.  There are lots of people with horses who work or need someone to help look after their horse when they are on holiday etc and they may  let you ride for free.  My daughter started doing pony days at the stable where she rode where they let you look after the horses and teach you how to groom, tack up, general horse care etc and these are very useful.  She now has her own pony and I don't mind admitting that she knows more about horses than me!  Don't let anyone spoil your dream!

hello thanks evryone for theese great answers they have  made me follow my heart and just go with my dreams .Thanks soooooo much ! (i nearly thought i might end up working in a supermarket like ma mum)

And someone mentioned a place were u can go after school and learn about horses . Who do i contact bout this !!!

Well it depends where you live? I went to Oaklands agricultural college in st Albans. Find out if there is an agricultural college near you and ring for a prospectus.
