I'm an eighteen year old (well nineteen in a few weeks) and i've recently recieved my new blood donors card for having donated 5 times. I've now set myself the target of getting the top card possible. To do this i'll need to give blood one hundred times, assuming i give blood three times a year i'll be in my 50's by the time i manage this!
Anywho, the whole thing sort of sparked my curiosity. How mnany times has everyone out there in AB land donated blood?
Sorry Princess, I've been putting some washing in the machine. I was given blood in the 70's just a pint. I've been giving blood for at least 18 years. Nothing was mentioned to me about not being able to donate.
Ohh chinadog, I think it was an issue if you'd recieved some blood from 1980 onwards, not quite sure why. Sorry if I got that wrong, I apologise! Just my Mam had a transfusion during an op in...2004 and when she went to donate, she was refused! (Seems a bit daft when they're so despearate for blood!) Anyway, apologies about that, I'm sorry. 18 years donating, wow, that's fantastic :o)
I think what they do now, is like someone who's received a transfusion to wait for something like 2 years or more before they can themselves give blood. This's to give infections time to show up during screening, as some of them don't at first.
My Mam got a donation in 2004 ish, still won't let her. Actually they told her since she had one since 1978 she couldn't, but looking on the website it's 1980. Strange.
Night china. Think I'd better get off myself now. I forgot that I'm down for doing the school run this morning!!
Night princess, pink, everyone who's still around. Mad dash upstairs now! x
I gave blood for years but had to stop because of medication I now have to take permanently. I also had a transfusion a few years back which is another reason they won't take it. But at least they had about 15 years worth out of me.
