You have probabally seen some conspiracy theories about Aliens building pyramids on Mars, started after viewing some legitimate photos from a Mars orbiter taken in the 1970's. The photos were taken at a time of day where the shadows on some rock formations made them look like they could be pyramids.
The area has been photographed more recently using better cameras, at times with no shadows, and the rock formations are certainly not pyramids.
There are however, many interesting features on the surface of Mars which although explained away by being formed by natural processes, still have associated mysteries to exactly how (ie lots of water formed features, but no water on the surface now).
Please check out the JPL marsrover web site for some stunning surface images.
I don't want to get into the conspiracy theory, oh yes it is, oh no it isnt etc discussion about the Mars face (I deliberately avoided it when posting my answer about the pyramids);
BUT, the face has been revisted and photographed and radar scanned lots since the 70's and NASA and Malin have some very good sites on it. It's a facinating feature and stands out, but it just a natural hunk of rock. I do love a good conspiracy theory, I think it's important to question everything and not accept anyones word on anything without some thought. But, the face theory doesn't stand up (its just a mountain) and NASA would be overjoyed to share the discovery of an alien artefact with the world, but don't take my word for it, I suppose I am biased in my work :-)
PS, sorry about the freaky pictures Marge, but I just can't stop doing them!
