Munich -Stuttgart single by train

Can someone who has experience of German railways please help. If I want to travel around 10.00am on xx/yy is it possible to buy a single in advance for a specific train like an APEX ,knowing that you lose your money if you miss the train, or should I just buy an open single either in advance or on the day of travel Thanks

and enter your journey details, not only will you get times, but a range of fare options (click "savings fares" next to the train of your choice).
weekdays, trains around 10am are at 09h40 and 10h23. "APEX" or standard? That would have to be your choice.
