So you;'re still plugging away Matakari!11) Having a little difficuly with just a hint for this, SECOND, means a short time here or HALF A ??, then the next 4 letters are a ketch-like vessel.
14) A two letter old city reversed, then WENT FIRST, a design
16) A 4 letter word meaning a type of bread, then shortened, insert a 3 letter word meaning exercise,
23) The box here is a 4 letter word meaning a theatre box, inside a 3 letter Cinese person.
24) A 2 letter word meaning very good, then a 2 letter poetic word for see, as and behold

3d) L=line in a word meaning inducement or make to happen, giving one section of a contract.
18) ZERO, then a cost with 0 inside
21) Think of a 7 letter word meaning ******, losing M from the beginning.

Sorry, I put "a design" in 14ac, it should have been in 11ac. The definition in 14ac is controlled or reigned.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide all these hints, DocHH! But, alas, sometimes the hints are even more subtle than the clues...I think iI got 3 & 21 Down, but don't seem to be able to see 18 Down...Is it ONEROUS? As for the Across hints, 23 could be HALOGEN? For 24, I've got LO, but cannot see the 2-letter word for very good...And 11,14 and 16 are still puzzling...Incidentally, a hint for 1ACROSS: Abandon food ( 5 ) - ???A?I just want to complete this for my own edification...Thanks again for any further help!

11 Mosaic .. MO = second as in a Mo' and Saic is a kind of ketch ...common in the Levant .
I am still musing on this other one I have put S(ok)o OK very good .
