maternity leave
I am currently on maternity leave but found out yesterday the company I work for has went bust and is closing in 2 weeks, needless to say I now don't have a job to go back to. My company has told me my maternity pay will also stop in 2 weeks, however I thought that no matter the circumstances Ithey were obliged by law to continue paying me. Bit confused and need advice, can anyone help? Also I stay in Scotland, I know Scottish laws sometimes vary from English ones but I don't know if maternity law is the same.
Many thanks
Many thanks

I *think* you will now have to claim from the government - but ACAS will be able to help you. Give them a call 08457 47 47 47

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what they are obliged to do by law, if they are bust and out of money then they can't pay you.
So far as I know the DSS pick up the payments to you directly instead (they were paying them anyway, just through the company which claims back the money it pays you). Not sure the actual mechanics of it though. The sooner you make enquiries the better, I'd imagine the CAB is a good starting point. Or phone the Benefits people directly. There's plenty of phone numbers etc on the child benefit literature, as I've been finding out this week!
Scots law and English law are identical on emplyment rights I believe.

It will be paid by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) and you should contact the nearest HMRC office, if you go here, http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kbroker/hmrc/locato r/locator.jsp?type=1 you can find out where that is.
