I was watching the whole thing but must have missed something!! What did the moon have to do with locating the house??

by looking at the photos and working out when the moon rose and when it would be in the place shown in the photo Grissom could work out where the photo was taken from.........

I'm still confused! If they did not know where the place was, how did they know where the moon was?? Does that make sense?! As in height and stuff.....

The moon was in the video that they had found with the murder on it. They then used the height and size of the moon to make a tracectory as to the house's location.

Actually, I think they gave it the ending they should have regardless of how soppy and romantic it may have been

The moon sits at certain angles over the course of a lunar month so if, as Grissom did, you can work out from charts where the moon was, what it's position was etc etc on a certain day then you can find out where it would be seen from earth in the same way on that day. They didn't actually pin point the house, they did, however, pin point an area and as the Arizona desert is sparsely populated it was easy enough to find a house with a kidnapped girl inside of it
