I'm sure your mum would love anything.But instead of the chrysanthmum/carnation bunch why not get a mixure of daffodils,tulips,anemones and iris. Won't last as long but spring flowers are lovely.Or get freesia (smell lovely) It really depends how much you want to spend

ah both sound really lovely... i was watching bbc news this morning and they showed some flowers... they showed on kind of flower which had a long stem and red/orange flower petals... but i completely forgot what its called. silly me!
i wont mind to spend up to �30ish.

That's a gerainium (sp?) I think you are describing with long stem and orange petals. I like those.
