Good evening Lucky Linkers, and Lurkers of the Shrubbery.

Week three of four is coming up and there is still everything to play for. In the MM game, we had a slow start to the month but last week the scoring picked up quite a bit and with any luck there will be a few more points on offer this weekend. It all depends on whether you can read the mind of our misterEguest who has revealed very little about himself until now. This week I believe he will reveal something about his location when he posts his Blog tomorrow morning. Will that help you to guess the links? Who knows?

Participants in he MM game will gather at 8:45 am and set off at 9:00am. (Be sure to arrive on time - you don't want to be playing 'catch up'.)
Also look out for the sister game of the KM Links (based on the Daily Telegraph GK Crossword) which can start at a very early hour and is managed by seekeerz from the antipodes.

The rest of this thread is now thrown open to the usual gang of conspirators and guests.
Enjoy yourselves.

I think he means a 'googlie' Pauline!
A googlie is an off break bowled with a leg break action (from a right hand bowler)
Sounds good doesn't it - but thats Alan's explanation!! (Not mine!!)
Can only say they made a real c0ck up Pauline, by leaving the field for "bad light" thinking they had won the match, when in practice they hadn't!!

It's all related to the Duckworth Lewis method of deciding a winning team in a match that's been shortened by bad light or rain etc.

It's so complicated that even the players don't understand it!! (S) ;O)
so there are two meanings for the phrase "out for a duck"?
Just posted you an answer Pauine but its disappeared!
Alan told me to tell you that a Googlie is an off break bowled with a leg break action (from a right handed bowler)
Any the wiser?!!
Well Dustybun...that explains it doesn't it??!!! :-))
I have posted two replies on here and they have both disapeared.
They certainly made a mess of things S.
Pauline, Alan told me to tell you that a 'googlie' is an off break bowled with a leg break action (from a right handed bowler) Any the wiser!!
As for Duckworth Lewis, leave that to the so called experts!!
Cheer for us tomorrow S!!
Hi Magyar .. hope you enjoyed the rugby, I'll be watching the internationals tomorrow.

Now it's quite simple really Dustybun ... here's a link to the ducky thingy for you ... questions may be asked later!! ;O)

Hello everyone, once again it's swift visit. I am going to retire injured!!!!! Have pulled a muscle in my side and it's so painful it's making me feel sick. Am going to take some Ibuprofen and have a reasonably early night.
If it's a nice morning will get a lift to the Carboot sale so will be late with my link words but don't expect that will make any difference!!!!
Hope everyone is OK. You all seem to be very quiet tonight!!!!
That makes it so much clearer...so what did the W Indies go then?
I am actually going to watch the Rugby tomorrow, although I don't understand that properly either!
I have tried to post on this thread three times tonight and every time they have disappeared, so here goes again!
Your right S they made a right mess of it and the Duckworth Lewis is a mystery to me!!
As for the 'googlie' Pauline, Alan told me to tell you that it is an off break ball bowled with a leg break action (from a right handed bowler) Any the wiser?!!
Tomorrow S in the rugby, will you shout for us please?!!
Hi Kay...how did you do it...or shouldn't we ask!!! :-))
thank you very much S ~ I'm still confused! Mind you, it reminds me of that lovely spoof definition of cricket for foreigners (also written by a man!):-

The definition of Cricket as explained to a foreigner--

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go
in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those
who are not out, that is the end of the game!

I'd have enjoyed the rugby more if the ref hadn't been so biased towards the Saints, but then there's nothing new there.
Dusty ... it's not surprising you're confused ... so are most of the players. Yes I love that definition of cricket, and seem to remember my mother had a tea towel emblazoned with it many years ago.

Pauline ... here's a brief report of tonights farce ~

Kay ... sorry to hear about your problem, a stiff drink or two may help!! :O)
yes...seen it before!
As I have an arly start tomorrow...Laura's Boyfriend here, breakfasts to cook, rooms to clean, floors tt scrub, I am going tg go to bed soon. ....Been walking all through Lyme Park today...4 mile walk..so I need my beauty sleep!

Sewe you all tomorrow...wake me up if I sleep in! :-))

Goodnight all...and good luck with the Links....

P.S. Watch out for Launch Date of new quiz over the weekend!!! :-)))
