Hiya
I'm currently 9weeks pregnant with my second baby and I am a large woman - obese in clinical terms size 22. I have always struggled with my weight and when I found out I was pregnant with my first was so happy I didn't care what I ate or how I looked and just indulged... the only problem was my delivery after having all the drugs in the world I couldn't manage to lift myself into position, neither could my husband or the medical staff. I also suffered with spd. This time around I would like things to be different I am very aware that I may still get the spd again anyway but I am determined to be able to move myself after the numbing of pain relief. I consulted a doctor at the local health centre who wasn't very interested with me at all, I told her my concerns and she simple told me that I'm still post natal depressed from my first and that if I'm serious about weight loss to eat nothing but fruit and veg and drink water and herbal tea. Well i've been doing this and feel horrid I had loads of energy at first but now I just feel weak and I think I'm depressed from eat lettuce!!!
Is this sort of dieting really going to work well through my pregnancy???
Thanks

Oh dear...please relax! Eat HEALTHY! That would include a variety of foods- fruit and veg, but also grains, seeds, pulses, whole grain pasta, protein (tofu!). Believe me, these foods CAN be tasty if you cook them right. Just cut out the fatty, fried foods, processed foods, sugary stuff...you'll be fine! Your baby's health depends on your physical and MENTAL health. Both are important.
And if you think you may have PND, see your GP. I had it, denied it for my first born's first six months...and totally regret not seeking help earlier. I'm fine now- thank goodness.
I wish you happiness and health! Please contact me if you need any support. I'm not a professional, but I know quite a bit about diet and stuff!
All the best to you and your babies!!!
dont cut food drastically , that will cause you to binge, the best thing to do is to not buy anything that may tempt you and instead eat normal healthy homecooked meals

keep away from fast food and junk. if its not in the house it cant tempt you, put some alternatives like fresh fruit and yoghurt in place of chocolate or sweets
You shouldn't really diet when pregnant, just try to eat more healthily. The advice from the doctor isn't right, you should have a varied diet and eat in moderation, little and often.

When I fell pregnant, I was convinced I would want to eat non stop and get really huge, strangely the opposite has happened and I am eating less, with little desire to eat sweet, sugary things. I'm even off chocolate and have gone down a dress size.

Try also to do some moderate exercise like walking and swimming.
My experience was similar to velvetee, I was size 22 and 19 stone and as soon as i got pregnant I somehow automatically wanted to eat healthily. I stopped smoking and drinking alcohol, never even wanted either. I had lost a stone by the time I gave birth and my little girl was a healthy 8lb 4oz. The healthy eating is now a struggle, my little girl is now 5 years old and I am now a healthy (for me lol) 16 and a half stone. Try and do some more excercise walking and swimming will be good for you both phisically and mentally. Good luck, I hope all goes well.
