If you assume that there is a white square above the one numbered 12D and another white square under the last one for 14D (also assume that clues are renumbered appropriately) then the crossword works out nicely.

I remember when they mixed-up the grids for the �500 crossword last year, I dutifully made up the correct grid, & sent it in, asking if it would be OK. (After all, I HAD solved it.) Got an e-mail back saying they were looking into it, & nothing more. Next thing, they run the crossword all over again, with the correct grid.
What really is annoying is that, when we do correct their mistakes, they promptly announce the competition null & avoid (why? they're tests of intelligence, after all, not prize draws), & then express surprise at how many of us got the right answer.
I do not think the publishers of an over-priced newspaper are in any position to patronize their readership....
Oh yes; Saturday's GK. The first H-bomb was not dropped; it was detonated in 1953, not 1956, and it wasn't tested at Bikini atoll, but Entiewetok.
