Is the foreign conviction also covered by the British Act when applying for a job in Britain to give the spent exemption so as not to harm your job application chances?
Unless you're applying to work with children or with police or national security then a spent conviction is exactly that.
Only law enforcement agencies can apply to foreign governments (including EU partners) for this type of information. It's not something that's generally available to ordinary employers.
The protocol for sharing criminal records has been agreed in Europe but the mechanism is not in place for general records checking.
