the other night, my boyfriend suddenly had a weird set of symptoms...

his cheeks went blotchy and hot and his lips were red

his knuckles, knees, elbows, and wrists all went a deep red colour and were very hot to touch - whereas the rest of his skin was cool...

the redness had quite sharp edges...you know not like a red 'blending' ...the redness had jagged edges...

i called nhs direct - in case it was some allergic reaction ...but they said as long as his throat an mouth is ok, and hes conscious etc...they thought he wasnt urgent and to call back in the morning...
he felt well...but we had been out to the pub so he was a bit drunk, which could have masked any ill feeling.

but it had completely gone in the morning...

any ideas what this could have been?
he did have a small spot on his wrist which we thought could have been a bite...but it also went...and it was just small an like a spot, it didnt look weird...

he didnt eat anything that he hasnt had numerous times before...plus he hadnt eaten anything for about 2 hours...

thanks

sounds like a mild allergic reaction, I get the red patches over my face, neck and chest whenever i have wine or dairy products.
I know someone like that who comes out in red weals and blothes whenever someone's wearing a certain perfume.
The fact that he didn't eat anything he hasn't had before is irrelevant where allergies are concerned,my daughter's allergist told me you have to be exposed to a substance more than once to develop an allergy to it.
either he's drunk too much or his drink has been spiked - watch his alcohol intake it sounds like he's on the alcoholic road!
It doesn't sound like anything to do with alcohol or alcoholism! I am not a doctor but I do have a daughter with serious allergies and this sounds like what happens to her whenever she comes into contact with grass pollen, wheat and barley, she has been hospitalised 3 times because of it and has to carry an Anapen (epipen) with her at all times.
He drank too much alcohol and his body couldn't process it - this redness happens because he has poisoned himself.

"As little as 1 ml of pure alcohol (equivalent to 10ml of wine or a mouthful of beer) is enough to provoke severe rashes, difficulty breathing, stomach cramps or collapse, a condition known as anaphylaxis"

http://www.allergycapital.com.au/Pages/alcohol .html

The rash is extremely common - tell him to lay off the booze for a while to give his system a rest. It is possible he is allergic to something in the drink, such as sulfites.
Sounds like...angioneurotic oedema.

Can be hereditary.

Can be due to allery

Animal dander
Certain medications (drug allergy)
Emotional stress
Exposure to water, sunlight, cold or heat
Foods (such as berries, shellfish, nuts, eggs, milk, other)
Insect bites
Pollen

daffy 654 is quite correct.

thanks all... he wasn't THAT drunk...he was sitting watching tv an eating pizza

by the time it happened we had been at home drinking with friends for about 4 hours so unlikely he was spiked...

he does drink a lot when we go out...an hes never had a reaction like that before

he had no other symptoms, and in fact didnt even notice it until i pointed it out...

he is under some emotional stress, because of money worries, but we were having a night out so i doubt hed have been especially thinking of that at that time...

the pizza was just chicken, garlic an jalapenos...he has that a lot

mmm sounds like a mystery...
You can have been eating something all your life and suddenly develop an allergy to it Joko!
