weed or poison

hi,i want to cement the crack between my path and house (3/4" wide) but its lined with weeds and tufts of grass, any ideas how to get rid of them?, try and dig them out (leverage is the problem) or poison them,any smart idea would be appreciated.

Poison will be the easiest option but please make sure that no kids or animals are going to be in the area when you do it... also, don't do just before you expect heavy showers or it will get all washed away into the ground and hence into the local watercourses/rivers... not nice for the end users - fish etc. You could try just covering the crack with old carpet for a while... the lack of sunlight will kill most weeds but this does take time to work. I think you can also hire or buy a weed burner that actually burns the weeds - have a peek of this

Yes, wee burners work well, they aren't costly, but do the job, I use this method, and it works well!

Kill them off, then dig them out, otherwise you'll be cementing over organic matter that'll gradually decay and leave a space under the cement. A pressure washer would be a big help in cleaning out the gap.
