I have just downloaded a programme called Reg Cure and is coming to the end of the first weeks use with no problems and working OK as far as I can tell. Another was Registry Helper, I sent for the disk on that one but can no longer find it but it seemed to work well. Be wary of some freebies, they let you think they're free but at the end of a month or so you find you can't use it and your registry is all to **** again.
As far as I can see, a whole lot of stuf has been left behind by numerous programs that have been installed and deleted over time.I'm up for manually deleting these if you can advise. Like iron-horse says, so many of the online offerings are designed to hook you into paying quite a lot for something thatbseems relatively simple, if you know what you are doing.
basically booting up and shutting down is taking ever longer with lots of disk grinding noises. I've run spybot, c-cleaner and malware scanner, no viruses found.
just leave them, it really doesn't make any difference.
when a program looks at the windows registry it knows exactly where to look for the information it requires so it takes no longer to find what it needs if the registry has a few dead ends and some old info in it.
Excessive playing about with the registry will only end in tears!
cc cleaner free and a very good prog to get rid of "crap" and has a simple reg cleaner in it too.or there is reg cure ,that's also free and has excellent reviews but only clean your reg poss: once every 6 months or so and do a restore point before doing so.
Thank you for that. I have just used it. I have been trying for some time to have a clean out with a "Free cleaner" Yes you download them free and the show you your errors risks etc and then they flash to $25 to get them fixed. Thank-you again. Fingers crossed I haven't deleted something crucial. I did a system restore point of yeasterday.
