Post wheel bearings repair

I've just had both sets of front wheel bearings fixed. Now, when I go over a speed bump, upon the wheels going down, there is a very pronounced knock. Even a thud. It seems to be coming from driver side front wheel. Could this be due to new bearings? Or have the garage messed something up? It's a T reg Renault Megane. Any help much appreciated!

It is possible that the bearing on that side hasn't been tightened to the correct torque. Jack up the car at the front and try grab each front wheel and try wobbling it sideways. If the side that you suspect the trouble on has more play in it, this is the most likely cause. Use axle stands as you will need to apply a bit of force to do this properly and you don't want the car crashing down off of the jack. Otherwise the track rod end may not be correctly tightened, this is the rod that turns the wheel hub when you steer. Where it connects to the wheel hub there should be a nut on top and no play in the steering rod, (bit difficult to explain, but anyone you know who knows a bit about cars can show you in a jiffy). If it's had both inner and outer wheel bearings fitted then the entire hub would have been removed.  The shock absorber/strut, lower suspension arm, CV/driveshaft, steering/track rod end are all connected to this hub, as well as the brake caliper etc.  Any of these could be loose and I would return the car to the garage asap since it would appear that they've left something loose.

Thank you both for your responses. I need to be sure when taking my car back as it's my sister-in-law I deal with. Can't look as though I don't know what I'm talking about in front of her!
