It seems Labour (and Gordon Brown) have manged to bankrupt the country.
According to the Sun
"Britain will borrow more money in the next two years than it did in the 306 years before Labour won power in 1997, it was revealed yesterday"

To many of us it was always obvious that Brown the demented would ruin this country, but to such an extent could never have bee envisaged other than those closely informed. going to hell in a hand cart seems appropriate, anyone on here got a good word for Brown, other than liar thief and delusioned pratt!!

What a tiny world some of you people seem to inhabit. A quick Google on Recession brings up the following quotes:
Berlin: Germanys recession is getting worse, the finance ministry warned yesterday as a press report said the conglomerate ThyssenKrupp would shed more than 3,000 steel and manufacturing jobs.
France: They are increasingly fed up with an economic crisis that they feel has been foisted on them by an elite of bankers, bosses and political bunglers. And their anger is spilling into the streets.
United States: Tent cities reminiscent of the "Hoovervilles" of the Great Depression have been springing up in cities across the United States - from Reno in Nevada to Tampa in Florida - as foreclosures and redundancies force middle-class families from their homes.
Japan: Japanese trade with the outside world took what economists described as a horrific nosedive in February, with imports and exports plummeting by the sharpest monthly margins on record as the world stopped buying Japanese goods.
Presumably, VHG, you think Brown is responsible for all this too - or maybe you think that with a different government, the UK would somehow miraculously be the only major economy that avoided the problem?

Rojash - the thread refers to the excessive borrowings of this Government, not to recession elsewhere. And there is no escaping the fact that Gordon Brown (as chancellor) was responsible for some of the most uncontrolled public spending which created the boom illusion that we are now paying for.
Every labour government in my living memory has created a financial mess to clear up and this one is no exception. Brown is part of the problem, not part of the solution. Roll on election time.
By the way shaking, there's nothing wrong with reading the Sun or any other paper - if the message about Brown gets through to Sun readers then it increases the chance of Brown being voted out.

maxi2, the excessive borrowing is an attempt to spend a way out the recession - most other countries are doing it too. I'm no fan of this government, but to imagine that the UK would be better off in some way if another party had been in power is simply to avoid recognising that the current problems are universal.
The questioner implies that the situation would have been different had another party been in power - and yet both Labour and the Conservatives have followed essentially the same policies since Blair first came to power.

Personally I fail to understand why anyone takes even the slightest interest in politics. Its not like the public have any say their policies. Voter apathy is so low that the majority of people cant even be bothered voting because its all tosh
Does anyone really think that politicians are in it for the good of the common man/woman?
All political parties are as bad as each other
