How many tonnes of hardcore will I need??

My driveway measures 12m x 3m and we want to fill it to a depth of 10cm with hardcore. How may tonnes might I need please??

I worked it out at 7 tonnes but this sounds excessive!!

You will need 3.6 cubic meters. I believe hardcore is sold by volume and not by the ton. Hope this helps!

As Sag states, you need 3.6 cubic metres.

Looking at the figures on this site, your estimate of around 7 tonnes seems about right:

It is correct that these sort of materials have a weight of about 2 tonnes per cubic metre.
And building materials are not sold by volume, but by weight.

Are you putting something on top of the hardcore? If not, you will be better off with Type 1 or Road Planings, though these will be a bit more expensive and will need compacting (roller/wacker plate). Agree 7 - 8 tonnes sounds about right.
