It's my view that they are attention seekers and know that their remarks will provoke a response and gain them publicity.
What sickened me this week was a report in the papers that a large percentage of schoolkids were questioned and most of them thought that Auschwitz was a type of lager!

There is an arguement/school of thought, that after every war, the victor gets to write the history of what happened, and that events are therefore painted in the light that favours and glorifies the victor and vilifies the loser.
There are some who have used this to argue that the victor's of WWII, i.e the UK, France etc Allies, have "made-up" or overstated the victimisation of the Jewish and other minorities in order to make the Germans seem evil and to justify the actions of the allies.
Not saying that this is what happened, just that that is the arguement used.

Personally i think the holocaust is still the worst wartime atrocity know to man , as of yet.
whatever else the nazi authorities were or did, they were meticulous record keepers.
the deniers can deny all they like; the evidence is there in an achive largely created by the perpetrators.

Why is the same film of the camps shown over and over? Only once have I seen a horrifying slaughterhouse with a man dressed in a hood just as in medieval days, with a huge axe and a basket full of heads.
Perhaps we have become enured to the magnitude of the killing and need to see this horrific clip as well.
As a side issue, unfortunately, the holocaust has become big business and is an excuse for all sorts of behaviour.

Actually, there are very few people (if any) who say that the holocaust didn't happen. What they do say is that the numbers have been exaggerated.
The term holocaust denier is actually misused - it implies that people are denying it ever took place - they are not, they are 'merely' denying the figures.

my husband was in the army in germany, while we were there my dad came over for a visit, he asked to see belson camp. because he was there when it was liberated , so we took our two girls it was not a nice place, but i felt they needed to know , once you walk through the camp it stays with you . it is a history that should never be forgot.
