Oxydized copper

I am trying to renovate an antique washing-machine whose copper drum is badly oxydized. Someone could help me to cope with that problem ?

I know it sounds strange but sulfuric acid will clean it up a treat and no it will not rot it - wear strong gloves and shield your mouth/nose.  It will come up a pinky colour then just  polish it with metal cleaner.  I've used this method for years and I also descale my electric kettle in seconds using the same liquid obviously rinsing and boiling it several times after.
