For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think the marks on the road are there in case one car is being overtaken by another. By comparing the cars' positions relative to the marks in the two pictures you would be able to tell which was going fastest.
Not sure about whether they must be there by law or not though. I thought there had to be a sign up warning you that there was a camera ahead, but I might be wrong.
Sorry Famous5 but the policeman with the camera will give evidence to the court that in his judgement you were exceeding the speed limit. This will be corroborated by the evidence of the camera. This is why the radar cameras have 2 sources of evidence. 1st that the radar senses you are exceeding the limit and 2ndly that they have photographic evidence to corroborate it.
I know nothing of the infra-red type though, any answers?
