How do you make a headboard?
4 Answers
At the moment we sleep in two 3' single beds, next to each other. As my husband is the most restless sleeper in the world, and also takes up (if given the chance) the whole of a 6' bed, the only way I can manage to sleep at all is in my own little bed.
At the moment we have matching headboards, which means the beds are 6" or so apart. We plan to get rid of these when we move shortly, and would like to make a long headboard, perhaps about 7' wide (+), to go behind both beds, so that they can be closer together.
I believe they can be made from MDF, and covered with foam and fabric, but don't know where to look for plans or patterns of such things.
Once again I ask all the clever people at Answerbank for help.. please!

Here in the U.S., they are 32 to 36 inches wide and a little over 7 feet long. They can easily be sanded and stained in various colors and designs and attach to the wall with as few as two screws although the one that I did used four... one at each corner that went into a wall stud... Even new, they're relatively inexpensive.
Be sure to look at interior doors since they are much lighter in weight that exterior solid doors... Most are made from mahogany and accept any finish you can think of...
I also made a nice headboard from 1 panel of louvered sliding closet door. It's narrower, of course, being only 12 inches wide or so, but still about 6 to 61/2 feet in length.
