It made the episode seem so sad, I felt like I had just watched a televised funeral or something.
This has happened before with free DVDs in the Mirror. I got an episode of the office some time last year, and that just missed out the opening credits entirely and just flew straight on into the programme. Which was weird.
It all makes you realise how much difference the opening music and credits makes to TV.
But I don't know why this is, I got another DVD of the Office in the Sun and they had the credits on the episodes. It might just be a policy of the Mirror, but my guess is that it might have something to do with music copyright, trying to prevent us sharing it on the internet, or making us scroungers who rely on free CDs and DVDs feel as cheap as we are.
Music copyright is seporate to the copyright of the actors and writers.
The theme tune would have been left off to save money.
All in all, the free DVDs serve as advertising, and hope to encourage people to buy the whole series ( or to buy the newspaper again ), though I imagine if some think the music will be missing from the finished DVD, it will put customes off.
