"D - Repairable salvage. Minimal damage sometimes stolen and found after claim has been paid, or cost of repair combined with difficulty obtaining new parts to enable a swift repair."
if you look at this website it explains it a bit better

I would just sell the car BUT explain that it is a CAt D and be honest. Contact the DVLA they should be able to tell you exactly what was done to it / what happened. God luck

Hi,
I'm a manager in the motor-trade. The answer by 'rnchugg' is absolutely correct - just so you know. I drive an old Jag which was 'written off' because it had a VERY small dent on the front bumper - didn't stop body shops from quoting over 2,500 to put it right, hence a right off. I got it put right for 150.
A tip - unless you're buying from a main dealer, ALWAYS get an HPI check done before you part with your hard-earned.
