Under the Sunday trading legislation, stores with an area of over 280 square metres are allowed to trade for up to 6 hours on every Sunday in the year except Easter Sunday (and Christmas Day if it falls on a Sunday).
That means that all big supermarkets, garden centres, DIY stores, department stores and shopping centres (such as Lakeside and Blue Water) will be closed tomorrow. The only shops you might find open will be 'corner shops' and other smaller shops.
While out shopping today I noticed that my local Wilkinson store has a sign announcing that it would be open tomorrow. It is considerably larger than 280 square metres.
I suspect that the local police/rapid response trading standards staff have better things to do on their days off, than go measuring up shops and insist they close.
The police around here cant be bothered to turn up for a reported burglary (not until the following day, at the earliest) what chance they will halt the heinous crime of breaking trading hours?
