Does anyone no of any sites where you can type in an address to see who used to live there?

Any previous electoral rolls are available for searches in your local reference library in person with no fee, you need to know your ward though to make it easier.
If your house is quite old, you can look for it in the 1911, 1901 or earlier census returns, again in your local studies library.
If your house has a mortgage, all the ownership history should be in the bundle of deeds which will be with the mortgage company
