My local Jobcentre used to have signing appointments 5 minutes apart. The gaps must be shorter now because the place always looks crowded, the staff always look hassled and my signing time is 9.52am!
Also, not so long ago, the Ipswich local rag used to proudly display ads, on front page of its Wednesday edition, stating "48 pages of jobs inside today". Currently the jobs supplement is down to 4 pages, and most of that is made up of articles about training, etc, rather than any actual job adverts.

Hello Dotty. Mr Aprilis got made redundant last week :-(
He doesn't usually have a problem finding work but there's just nothing out there at the moment, especially in his field of work.
He did find a Construction Project Manager's job with the MOD the other day. 85k a year tax free, accomodation paid for.....in Afghanistan!!!
It's flipping scary how few jobs are available at present and I feel sorry for anyone who's been made redundant as a result of the current economic climate.
