Is it even remotely possible that he was confused, or walking on the road, or not wearing any visibility clothing, or that the area was dark with no lights, that the motorist couldn't possibly avoid, that he stepped out in front of the car... etc etc?
Because the news story mentions no facts whatsoever except that this poor sod was killed. If you look at the rules of the road there are very specific rules and responsibilities listed for pedestrians too, and I would take issue with your statement about motorists ruling the world. If he was knocked down on a footpath, you have a point. If on a road, you do not.
