I find that a hot (not milky, encourages mucus) drink is good, like hot water with honey and lemon or black/herbal tea.

If it's allergy related an antihistamine is useful - I realise only a good suggestion if you actually have some!

Steam can be quite good too, try a calming bath, both steamy and relaxing.
a spoonful (or 2 ) of sugar

I have just has a cup of black tea, not something I enjoyed, however so far so good, it seems to have done the trick! Yippee!!!!
I tend to make cordial with hot water as that's nice and soothing.

Sucking an ice lolly is good too.

Sitting upright so your airway is fully open can also help.

Weleda cough drops are great if you can find them in the shops.
Tickly cough sounds like inflammation. To reduce inflamamtion could sip slowly an anti inflamatory, like soluble aspirin in water. As they taste a bit nasty you can mix it with a hot lemon and honey drink, or with cold squash
I agree hot (non milky) drinks are best.
In commercial cough mixtures I understand active ingredeint is usually glycerine, but dont suppose you have any of that in you medicine chest?!?
A tickly cough can be caused by indigestion and heartburn. It might be worth seeing your doctor if the cough lasts.
